Summertime
Summer’s my favorite season, and I’m a little sad that it’s almost Labor Day! I’m writing this as I’m gallery sitting at the Kittery Art Association; I love being here, meeting new people as they come in to enjoy the latest exhibit. The last time I blogged, I’d just entered paintings for the very first time, and now we’re well into the next exhibit, which is called “Summertime Blues.” We were limited to two paintings this time around, and here’s what I’ve got hanging in the gallery:
Buoys and Whaleback Lighthouse… two of my favorite things to paint!
I’ve just joined the York Art Association, and drop off for their next show, called ‘Shine’, is this Sunday, so stay tuned for more photos.
And…my friend Anne is now the principal at Rye Junior High School - which on its own is very exciting news - and she is displaying some of my paintings in her office, which is very cool! I should have visited the office first (lesson learned), because it was way bigger than it looked in the photo she’d sent me… so the painting of Whaleback and the Wood Island Life Saving Station looked too small on the wall behind her desk, but I’m working on a much bigger canvas, and I can’t wait to see the finished project. So this is the one I brought originally, which is now going to hang elsewhere in the office:
She also requested buoys in Traip and Rye colors, which are blue, gold, and white, so I brought those over last week:
Also: There’s a KAA show happening in October featuring plein air paintings. I’ve never actually painted outside, but I’m always up for trying new things, so I ordered this easel, and I’m gonna haul it down to the pond by our beach and give it a shot!
Enjoy these final weeks of summer… take long walks and collect shells, and stones, and sea glass, and driftwood, and create! It’s good for your soul.
